The Regal set for a busy end to month

WORK by one of the greats of true legends of theatre is a winter treat at the Regal in Tenbury.

Alan Bennett has been described as an institution and his iconic work ‘taking heads’ is to be performed.

It will also be one of the first theatre shows produced in house by the theatre.

Bennett’s series of monologues have been entertaining audiences for nearly 30 years.

Since they were first seen on BBC they have appeared on stage and radio the world over, charming audiences with Bennett’s style of wit, observation and social commentary.

Local actors Anne Churchill, Peter Hayter and Sue Hawkins bring Bennett’s witty and charming characters to life in this live show, directed by Adey Ramsel and presented in The Regal Studio.

The stories being featured are ‘A chip in the Sugar’ about a middle-aged man who lives with his aged mother only for their prosaic existence to be disrupted with mon meets an ‘old flame in a café.’

A lady of letters is about a lonely woman with too much time on her hands who writes too many letters expressing unwelcome and often ill-informed opinions about the lives of people around her.

Like so much of Alan Bennett’s work sadness and age feature in, ‘A cracker under the settee’ about a widow looking back on her life and fearing a future for which she is destined in a care home.’
